Plagiarism Policy

At Medical Insights, we are committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in publishing and ensuring the integrity of all submitted manuscripts. Plagiarism is a serious ethical breach that undermines the credibility of scientific research, and we take any form of plagiarism very seriously.

1. Definition of Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else’s work, ideas, or words as your own without proper attribution. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text from other sources without citation

  • Paraphrasing someone’s work without proper acknowledgment

  • Using images, figures, or tables without permission or citation

  • Submitting previously published work (self-plagiarism) as new

2. Plagiarism Detection:

  • Pre-Submission Check: Authors are encouraged to use plagiarism detection tools before submitting their manuscripts to Medical Insights to ensure that the content is original and properly cited.

  • Post-Submission Check: All manuscripts submitted to Medical Insights will undergo plagiarism screening using industry-standard software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate). This process helps identify similarities with previously published works.

  • Threshold for Detection: We expect authors to ensure that their work has less than 10% similarity to previously published content, including properly cited references. Any manuscript with a higher level of similarity will be flagged for further review.

3. Consequences of Plagiarism:

  • Initial Review: If plagiarism is detected during the initial review process, the manuscript will be returned to the author with a request to correct the plagiarism or provide appropriate citations.

  • Further Investigation: If plagiarism is suspected after a manuscript has been accepted or published, the editorial board will conduct a thorough investigation. This may include contacting the author, reviewing the original source of the plagiarized content, and consulting with the reviewers and other experts.

  • Rejection and Retraction: If plagiarism is confirmed at any stage, the manuscript will be immediately rejected or, if already published, retracted from the journal. The author may also be banned from submitting future manuscripts to Medical Insights.

  • Notification to Affiliations: In cases of severe plagiarism, the author’s institution or funding body may be notified of the breach. Medical Insights reserves the right to take further action as per ethical and legal requirements.

4. Self-Plagiarism:

  • Authors must not submit any part of their previously published work (including abstracts, tables, or data) as new content without proper citation and acknowledgment. This includes submitting the same or very similar articles to multiple journals.

  • Medical Insights expects authors to ensure that all previously published material is appropriately cited and referenced in new submissions.

5. Author Responsibilities:

  • Authors must ensure that all sources are properly cited, including direct quotations, paraphrased content, and any other contributions from external works.

  • Authors should provide clear, accurate references to support their research and claim the proper intellectual property rights of others.

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work adheres to Medical Insights' guidelines for proper citation and originality.

6. Preventing Plagiarism:

  • Proper Citations: Authors should use an appropriate citation style (as per Medical Insights’ guidelines) to give proper credit to the original authors of any material used.

  • Attribution of Ideas: If an idea or concept has been inspired by a source, even if not directly quoted, it must be attributed to the original author.

  • Acknowledging Sources: All sources of funding, data, and contributions must be disclosed as per our journal’s requirements.

7. Role of Editors and Reviewers:

  • Editors: Editors are responsible for ensuring that the plagiarism screening process is followed and for investigating any potential plagiarism issues that arise during the submission, review, or post-publication stages.

  • Reviewers: Reviewers should report any suspicions of plagiarism or improper attribution that they identify during the peer review process. They play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the journal’s content.

8. Educational Efforts:

  • Medical Insights is committed to educating authors on the importance of academic integrity and proper citation practices. We provide resources and guidelines to help authors understand how to avoid plagiarism and adhere to ethical standards in scientific publishing.

9. Reporting Plagiarism:

  • If any member of the Medical Insights community suspects plagiarism or unethical behavior, we encourage them to report the issue confidentially to the editorial board. All reports will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
