Withdrawal Policy
At Medical Insights, we understand that authors may need to withdraw their manuscript from consideration at various stages of the publication process. This Withdrawal Policy outlines the procedure and conditions under which an author can request to withdraw a manuscript.
1. Withdrawal Before Submission:
-
No Penalty: If the manuscript is withdrawn before it has been officially submitted (i.e., it has not been entered into our editorial or peer-review process), there are no charges or penalties. Authors can simply notify the journal by contacting us at [insert contact email].
-
Notification Requirement: Authors are requested to notify the journal promptly if they decide to withdraw their manuscript before submission. No further action will be required from the journal’s side.
2. Withdrawal After Submission, Before Peer Review:
-
Request to Withdraw: Authors who wish to withdraw their manuscript after submission, but before it enters the peer-review stage, must formally request withdrawal by contacting the editorial team via email at [insert contact email].
-
No Charges: If a manuscript is withdrawn before the peer review process begins, no withdrawal fees will be applied. However, the author may be asked to provide a brief reason for the withdrawal to improve our submission process.
3. Withdrawal After Peer Review:
-
Withdrawal Request After Review: If an author requests to withdraw their manuscript after it has entered the peer-review process but before acceptance or rejection, they must notify the editorial team with an official withdrawal request.
-
Potential Costs: If the manuscript has already undergone substantial peer review or editorial work, Medical Insights may charge an administrative fee to cover part of the editorial and review costs incurred. This will be communicated to the author before final processing.
-
Reason for Withdrawal: Authors must provide a reason for withdrawal at this stage, whether it be due to findings in the peer review, a decision to submit to another journal, or any other factor.
4. Withdrawal After Acceptance, Before Publication:
-
Post-Acceptance Withdrawal: If an article is accepted for publication but the author decides to withdraw it before it is officially published, the author must formally submit a withdrawal request to the editorial team.
-
Cost and Responsibility: Authors may be required to pay for the editorial work that has been completed up until that point. The costs will depend on the stage of publication reached (e.g., layout, proofreading, typesetting).
-
No Refund for Paid APC: If the manuscript has been accepted and the Article Processing Charge (APC) has already been paid, no refund will be issued upon withdrawal.
5. Withdrawal After Publication:
-
Post-Publication Withdrawal: Once a manuscript is published, whether in an issue or as part of the journal archive, it cannot be withdrawn. Medical Insights considers all published articles as permanent contributions to the journal.
-
Retraction Process: If an author wishes to retract a published article after it has been made publicly available, the journal will follow a formal retraction process. The retracted article will remain in the archive with a retraction notice indicating the withdrawal.
6. Withdrawal Due to Ethical Concerns:
-
Ethical Violations: If an author wishes to withdraw a manuscript due to concerns related to ethical issues, including data fabrication, plagiarism, or conflicts of interest, the author is encouraged to notify the journal immediately.
-
Investigation: Medical Insights may conduct an investigation into any ethical concerns raised before agreeing to the withdrawal. If misconduct is identified, the author’s affiliation and the relevant details may be disclosed to the author’s institution or funding body.
7. Procedure for Withdrawal:
-
Authors wishing to withdraw their manuscript must send a formal withdrawal request to Medical Insights via email at [insert contact email]. The request should include:
-
Manuscript title and ID number.
-
Reason for withdrawal.
-
Any relevant information (e.g., communication with reviewers, editorial team, etc.).
-
-
The editorial team will acknowledge the withdrawal request and update the manuscript status accordingly.
-
In the case of withdrawal after peer review or acceptance, the journal may inform the reviewers and editorial team.
8. Impact of Withdrawal:
-
Impact on Future Submissions: Authors who withdraw their manuscripts after acceptance or during the publication process may be subject to delays or restrictions on future submissions, depending on the circumstances of the withdrawal.
-
Author Responsibilities: Authors are responsible for any legal or institutional obligations that may arise due to the withdrawal of the manuscript, especially if it affects collaborative research, funding, or institutional approvals.
9. Final Decision on Withdrawal:
-
Medical Insights reserves the right to deny withdrawal requests at any stage if the manuscript is considered to have already gone through significant editorial work or if withdrawal would violate journal or ethical standards. The decision to allow withdrawal will be at the discretion of the editorial board.
10. Communication:
-
All withdrawal requests will be handled promptly, and authors will be notified of the decision in writing. We encourage authors to communicate any concerns regarding withdrawal in a timely manner to avoid delays.
